REGULATORS, TRANSDUCERS, AND AIRFLOW CONTROL

Airflow systems rely on regulators to control pressure, transducers to convert physical airflow/pressure into electrical signals, and a calibrated setup process to ensure stable, accurate operation.

1: VERIFY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS – START HERE

Confirm airflow, pressure, and signal specifications before selecting or installing components.

  • Identify required input pressure and regulated output pressure
  • Determine airflow range for the application
  • Confirm transducer type (pressure, differential pressure, mass airflow)
  • Review electrical output requirements (0–5 V, 4–20 mA, digital)

2: INSPECT AND PREPARE COMPONENTS – RECOMMENDED

Ensure regulators, transducers, and fittings are clean, undamaged, and compatible.

  • Check regulator body for cracks or contamination
  • Verify transducer ports are unobstructed
  • Confirm thread types and fitting sizes
  • Clean mating surfaces to prevent leaks

3: INSTALL THE AIR REGULATOR

Mount and connect the regulator to establish stable downstream pressure.

  • Position regulator upright for accurate diaphragm response
  • Connect inlet and outlet lines using proper torque
  • Install filter or dryer upstream if required
  • Slowly pressurize system and check for leaks

4: SET AND STABILIZE OUTPUT PRESSURE – WARNING

Adjust the regulator to the required pressure and allow the system to stabilize.

  • Turn adjustment knob clockwise to increase pressure
  • Monitor downstream gauge for stability
  • Allow 30–60 seconds for diaphragm settling
  • Recheck for pressure creep or drop

5: INSTALL THE AIRFLOW OR PRESSURE TRANSDUCER

Mount the transducer in the correct orientation and connect pneumatic and electrical interfaces.

  • Align transducer with airflow direction arrows
  • Use vibration‑isolating mounts if needed
  • Connect tubing without sharp bends
  • Wire output leads according to polarity and signal type

6: CALIBRATE THE TRANSDUCER – CALIBRATION

Apply known airflow or pressure values to ensure accurate signal output.

Use a reference manometer or calibrated airflow source to verify output at 0%, 50%, and 100% of range.

  • Zero the transducer with no pressure applied
  • Apply calibration points and record output
  • Adjust span or offset if available
  • Document calibration values for traceability

7: VALIDATE AIRFLOW PERFORMANCE

Confirm that the regulator and transducer operate together within required tolerances.

  • Measure airflow at multiple regulator settings
  • Compare readings to expected system curves
  • Check for oscillation or instability in pressure
  • Verify electrical output matches airflow changes

8: FINALIZE SYSTEM AND DOCUMENT RESULTS

Secure components, label connections, and record all settings for future maintenance.

  • Tighten all fittings and mount hardware
  • Label regulator setpoint and transducer range
  • Record calibration data and test results
  • Schedule periodic inspection intervals
